NRA Basic Shotgun Shell Reloading Course

SYNOPSIS: A team of NRA Certified Firearms Instructors will provide the NRA Basic Shotgun Shell Reloading Course.  The 8-hour course deals with the basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to safely reload shotgun shells.  The fee covers the NRA Reloading textbook; NRA Safety Rules pamphlet;  (the students can keep the previous items); one-year membership to Southern Minnesota Sportsman's Club for student, spouse, and child under 18 years; lunch, coffee and rolls; and NRA Course Completion Certificate.  The course covers:

Introduction to Reloading and Reloading Safety.  Describe the firing process.  Explain the reloading process and why people reload.  Name and explain the fundamental safety rules for reloading.

Shotgun Shell Components.   Learn the proper nomenclature for shotgun shell components:  cases (hulls), primers, powder, wads and shot or slugs.

Using the Reloading Manual and Reloading Data.  Select a suitable load for a particular shotgun shell from a reloading manual.  Identify useful ballistics information for a particular metallic cartridge load in the ballistics tables in reloading manuals.

Shotgun Shell Reloading Equipment.  Identify the equipment necessary to reload shotgun shells. Explain the proper operation and maintenance of reloading equipment and the requirements for a basic reloading bench.

The Shotgun Shell Reloading Process.  The proper techniques used to reload shotgun shells will be explained.  The proper hygienic guidelines for handling lead and components will be explained.

Basic Shotgun Shell Reloading Practical Exercise.  Set up and operate reloading equipment.  Reload a shotgun shell.

Course Review and Examination. Successfully complete the NRA Basic Shotgun Shell Reloading Course written examination.
