Five (5) year RTC permits expires at 12:00 AM midnight on the date of expiration listed on the permit. Applicants must present evidence that they have received training in the safe use of a pistol within one year of the date of an original or renewal application.

RTC permits must be renewed at the county sheriff’s office in the county where the applicant currently resides. Renewal of the RTC permit is to be made not prior to 90 days of the expiration date of the current permit. The maximum renewal gun permit fee will be $75.00.

After the expiration date, but within 30 days after the expiration, permits can be renewed by paying an additional late fee of $10.00. During this time your past permit is not valid, and you will not be able to carry until your renewal permit has been approved and issued.

31 days after expiration, it will be necessary to apply for a new RTC. The maximum gun permit fee will then be $100.00.

Minnesota’s Right To Carry is honored in 21 states: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia.

*Florida versus Utah Carry Permit
The Florida Permit has the same number of states as the Utah permit. The Utah permit does not include Florida; however, Washington state is included. The Florida fee is $117 and is good for seven (7) years.

Florida is suppose to accept proof of “completion of any firearms training or safety course conducted by a state-certified or NRA-certified instructor.

Utah permit requires attendance at a Utah-specific class. The Utah application fee is $65.25 and is good for five (5) years.

State firearm laws and reciprocal agreements may change frequently and are subject to court interpretation. It is the responsibility of the carry permit holder to be familiar with the laws. An attorney licensed to practice law should always be contacted for any legal advice.
